A fund to help Chester man and member of the Chennai Six Ray Tindall get back on his feet has passed 2 thousand pounds, less than 24 hours since going online.

The ex-soldier is one of 6 Brits who were wrongly jailed for four years in India over weapons offences.

They had been working on a ship to combat piracy in the Indian Ocean when they were arrested in 2013.

Following a campaign to secure their release they were eventually acquitted.

They were released from jail last week, and will return to the UK once the relevant paperwork has cleared.

Mr. Tindall set up the fundraiser to help secure a new home in Chester. The £2,000 was raised within 24 hours of the appeal going live.

It’s expected the six men will be home by next week.
