Robbery Attempt as Congleton Prepared for Light Switch-on

Police have thanked the public for their assistance after an attempted robbery in Congleton on Friday.

Four men were arrested following the incident at Brown’s Jewellers in the town.

The Christmas Lights Switch on was thrown into question after roads were closed for police to gather forensic evidence.

However, it did go ahead as planned.

Strikes Set to Affect East Cheshire

Key services are set to grind to a halt next week, as unions insist strikes will go ahead.

The walkouts on Wednesday will see the closure of most schools in Macclesfield and east Cheshire, while some NHS operations are having to be rescheduled, and appointments and tests postponed.

The government is warning unions they risk losing the improved offer on pensions, if they walk out.

Cyber Bullying Survey Launched in East Cheshire

Twelve to 16 year olds in East Cheshire are being targeted by council bosses as they look at ways to tackle cyber bullying.

An online survey has been launched to find out how much of a problem it is.

Nationally, there’s been an increase in children being bullied via their mobiles, emails or on social networking sites like Facebook.

The results of the survey will be used to decide how best to stop the problem and  help those who are victims of it.

Police Issue New 101 Number

We are being asked to ring a new non-emergency number to report incidents  instead of 999.

Cheshire Police, together with Merseyside Police and Greater Manchester Police, are among the first to switch over to the telephone number ‘101′.

It’s to make it easier for members of the public to contact police in a non-emergency.

Charity Hoax Warning

Hoaxers pretending to be from a charity are targeting residents in Macclesfield.
The Windyway organisation say someone is knocking on doors and asking people to make monthly donations and complete a standing order.
Windyway do not do door to door collections, nor are any of their volunteers authorised to do so.
Police are now investigating.

Some of us in east Cheshire could be facing bills of thousands of pounds in house repairs.
The warning comes as the Winter gets underway.
New findings suggest 1 in 3 of us are at risk of winter damage costs like burst water pipes.

A campaign to help people who find themselves falling behind with their energy
bills has been launched in Cheshire.

It’s amid fears that further price hikes will push more people into the red
this winter.

The joint campaign headed up by Citizens Advice believe more than half of
us are worried about being able to afford their energy bills over the coming
months.

MISSING PREGNANT WOMAN STILL NOT FOUND
There’s growing concern for a pregnant woman from Crewe, who has not been seen for six days.

31-year-old Katherine Dillon is believed to be almost eight months pregnant and was last seen on 10th November.

She’s described as white, 5ft 5in tall of slim build, and has dark brown curly hair.

Katherine was last seen wearing a grey smock with black leggings, a white jacket and trainers.

THIEF TAKES POPPY TIN ON ARMISTICE DAY

 
A callous thief in Cheshire has stolen nine poppy tins in the last week.

One was even stolen from a bakery while a service was taking place on Armistice day.

It’s been happening across the Cheshire area, including Chester and Frodsham.

He’s described as white, in his early to mid thirties, of average build and around 6′ tall.

Police are appealing for witnesses.

CHESHIRE CHILDREN URGED TO HAVE VACCINE

 
Parents are being urged to ensure their children are vaccinated against measles.

Cases of the infection are increasing in Cheshire, and the Health Protection Agency says those who haven’t had the jab are most at risk.

Children and young adults are the most vulnerable.

RUBBISH SENT TO LANDFILL REDUCED IN CHESHIRE

Cheshire residents have managed to dramatically reduce the amount of rubbish being sent to landfill sites.

In just 12 months, Cheshire East Council cut garbage sent to tips by one thousand tonnes – saving £100,000.

Residents can now use one bin to recycle rather than having to sort it out at the kerb.

The local authority believes the move has contributed to the waste reduction.

OLYMPIC FLAME WILL PASS THROUGH CHESHIRE EAST

The Olympic Flame will be passing through Congleton on it’s Olympic Torch Relay Route.
It will also be making it’s way to 3 other Cheshire East Towns including Macclesfield, Crewe and Knutsford.
Preperations are in place to welcome those visiting the town.
Former Olympic medalists Robbie Brightmal and his wife Ann Packer are proud it’s coming to their town.

Cheshire East Council’s announced the first major transfer of assets in the borough.
Nantwich Town Council will now have responsibility for the indoor and outdoor markets, as well as the Civic Hall and allotment sites.
The handover in April 2012 is part of the local service delivery project.

A report from the House of Commons Public Accounts Committee also says the system for protecting consumers is not good enough.

Report Exposes Housing Waiting List Crisis

It’s emerged it would take over 74, 000 years to clear the backlog of Cheshire families waiting for social housing.
That’s according to the National Housing Federation.
Their Home Truths report paints a bleak picture of the housing market in areas such as Macclesfield, where more and more people can no longer afford to buy or rent homes.
Across Cheshire, nearly 19,500 households are on waiting lists.

Online Campaign Launched
People in Cheshire East who use the internet are being asked to help the local community.
It’s part of the national ‘Go On Give an Hour’ scheme which is geared to help people get online who’ve never used the internet before.
Mentoring will take place in libraries where free internet access is available to library members.
The scheme’s running until 6th November.

Macclesfield Visitor Centre to Shut for Refit
The visitor information centre in Macclesfield is to close from Friday, November 4th while work is carried out for a new expanded centre.
The new centre, branded with the ‘Make it Macclesfield’ logo, aims to enhance the linkage with Macclesfield and the wider Cheshire East area.
Macclesfield Town Football Club and Macclesfield Rugby Union Football Club will also be given a promotion opportunity at the site, by having an outlet for their products.

Budget Warning for Cheshire East
Cheshire East Council is warning residents hard decisions will be made in the near future.
It comes after a budget review showed the authority faces an overspend of £16.2million.
The large deficit remains, despite making £17.8 million in savings.

Anti-Social Cases Go Down in Cheshire
It seems early intervention techniques are having an impact on anti social behaviour,  according to Cheshire Police.
The number of disorder incidents recorded between April and September in the county dropped to under 25,000, compared with more then 30, 000 in the same period last year.
So-called “repeat” incidents, where there were calls from the same victim or the same location, were also down.
