A new safety initiative targeting construction sites in Macclesfield and other parts of east Cheshire is being launched.

The Health and Safety Executive say high numbers of construction deaths and serious injuries occur in Cheshire.

Inspectors are to visit building sites to offer support and advice to workers and contractors.

Police Reassure Residents

Police are reassuring residents after three cases of suspicious vehicles approaching children in Macclesfield.

Adults in a white van are alleged to have approached three young people last week.

Police say due to greater awareness, additional reports of children being concerned about the behaviour of the people in the vehicles have been made.

Patrols are being increased in the area as a precaution.

The Chancellor is to use a 800 million pound ‘underspend’ by extending the
council tax freeze for two years.

It’s the headline grabbing announcement from a wide-ranging speech at the
Conservative conference in Manchester.

An exhibition to promote independent living through using technology is taking place in Poynton this week.

The Supporting Independent Living Exhibition will showcase the latest devices to promote independent living among older people and those with physical or mental health needs.

Potential sites for the travelling community are being considered in east Cheshire.

It’s because local authorities across the UK have been told they must provide space for travellers.

But residents are unhappy about the plans and are concerned about which sites are being looked at.

NHS ‘Super’ Centre Plans for Knutsford

Plans to build a ‘super’ health centre in Knutsford are gaining momentum.

Consultants have now been appointed as the local PCT look at ideas for improved health and social care.

NHS bosses want to modernise GP practices, as well as improve services – but all under one roof.

There’s some concern patients may have to travel further to get to the so-called ’super centre’.

A one-stop shop might also include the provision of the services previously delivered from Bexton Court and Tatton Ward at the community hospital.

Both Bexton Court and Tatton Ward have been closed for over a year and plans for the ‘original’ health centre were scrapped in June 2010 because of the ongoing economic crisis.

Woman Critical after House Blaze

A 56-year-old woman’s in a critical condition in hospital after a house fire in Crewe.

Fire crews managed to rescue her after she became trapped inside in the early hours this morning.

Some houses nearby were evacuated while the fire was put out.

It’s Home Security Week, and residents in Cheshire are being advised on crime prevention.

In recent months, Cheshire Police have reported an increase in burglaries in certain hot spots.

Ways to beef up security include installing CCTV cameras, floodlights and keeping valuables out of sight.

Riot Pair Due in Court

Defendants jailed for their involvement in the August riots are challenging
their sentences on Tuesday.

Judges at the Court of Appeal will deal with ten cases stemming from last
month’s disorder.

They include appeals by two men from Cheshire, who were jailed for four years for using Facebook to incite others to riot in the county.

INTRUDER IN STOCKPORT HOME

Detectives have bailed a man they were questioning on suspicion of murder after
a suspected burglar was stabbed to death at his home.

Two men allegedly forced their way into the 39-year-old’s house in Stockport
on Saturday night.

One ran off but the other suffered fatal knife injuries.

A 33-year-old man’s also been arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary.

An Adoption agency based in Cheshire is looking for amateur poets.

Adoption Matters Northwest is running its annual poetry competition to raise awareness of adoption.

They’re looking for entries which stress the importance of families.

INFO POD IN KNUTSFORD

Tourists in Knutsford will eb able to discover all it’s attractions – thanks to a state-of-the-art information point.

Similar to an iPad, the so-called ‘Info Pod’ is secured into a metal case and stand so it can be moved around the town.

When accessed, the Info Pod plays a promotional video showcasing Knutsford.

Burglaries Witness Appeal Launched

Detectives investigating three burglaries in Holmes Chapel are appealing for witnesses.

Two houses in Middlewich Road and one in Westmorland Terrace were targeted by thieves, all on the same night.

The offenders broke into the properties and escaped with jewellery and electrical items.

New Claims Over Contamination at Stockport Hospital

Officers have been called back to Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport after
reports a bottle of milk had been contaminated.

Officers stress they are not linking this latest incident to their inquiries
into the tampering of saline solution.

A patient drank a small amount of the tainted milk, but wasn’t harmed.

Two Men Charged With Murder

Two men have been charged with the murder of a man who has been missing from his Cheshire home since 2007.

The body of 36-year-old John Iveson, from Nantwich, has never been found.

Mark Done, aged 47, from Nantwich and 39-year-old Paul Billington, from Rossett near Wrexham, have been charged with murder.

They are due to appear at Chester Magistrates’ Court on Monday (September 12th).

Memorial for Bomb Heroes

A memorial to commemorate fallen soldiers is being created in east Cheshire.

An area between Crewe and Nantwich will be used to honour the six heroes from the Royal Engineers, who died during the Second World War..

They had disarmed three German bombs when a final bomb exploded.

Human Trafficking Arrests

Six people have been arrested in Crewe, as part of an investigation into human trafficking.

Crewe CID have been working alongside the Gang Master Licensing Authority.

Two men -  aged 25 and 37 – and a woman, aged 23, were charged with trafficking offences and a 33 year old woman was charged with money laundering.

A 40 year old man and a 30 year old man have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Murals for Macclesfield

Three murals have been put up on three walls by TJ Hughes in Macclesfield.

These have been made to commemorate 750 years since the town was awarded a Royal Charter.

Schoolchildren have helped create them, which have been commissioned by Friends of the Silk Heritage.

The murals will be formerly unveiled by local MP David Rutley.

New Proposals to Help Vulnerable People

New proposals that would benefit vulnerable adults and their carers are currently being drawn up by Cheshire East Council.

The proposals aim to deliver improvements to a number of day care, respite care and leisure facilities for older and younger people who are living with complex care needs.

Starting soon, Cheshire East Council will begin the process of discussing the proposals with service users so that they can contribute to the development and shape of these services.

Witness Appeal to Fatal Crash

A witness appeal’s been launched after a fatal crash in Middlewich.

A 35-year-old man from Winsford died when his car collided with a lorry near to the junction with Centurion Way.
 
The road was closed until 10am on Tuesday to allow the scene to be examined.
