The body of a woman found dead in a lake in Poynton, Cheshire has been confirmed as that of a serving Police Officer.
Greater Manchester Police has paid tribute, as it’s confirmed the body found in Poynton on Friday, September 29 is that of a serving officer.
In a statement, Chief Constable Ian Hopkins says 39 year old Leanne McKie worked tirelessly to seek justice and support for victims of sexual crimes.
He particularly sends heartfelt condolences to her three young children.
His full tribute reads as follows:
“It is with great sadness that I can confirm that the body of serving GMP officer Leanne McKie was found in Poynton yesterday morning and a murder investigation has been launched by Cheshire Police.
“I would like to offer my most sincere condolences to Leanne’s family and friends at this devastating time. My heart particularly goes out to her three young children, who she adored.
“Leanne has served with Greater Manchester Police since 2001 and is a Detective working Serious Sexual Offences Unit. Leanne worked tirelessly to provide support and seek justice for victims of sexual crimes.
“Leanne was a popular figure among her colleagues, who have been left devastated by the news of her tragic death. She will be sorely missed by everyone she worked with.”
Cheshire Police has launched a murder investigation. A 43 year old man from Wilmslow has been arrested and remains in Police custody assisting with enquiries.
Detective Inspector Adam Waller, said, “I would like to reassure local residents that at this stage this appears to be an isolated incident and we are not looking for anyone else in relation to her death.”
