The family of a motorcyclist killed in a collision on the A556 near Northwich, has paid tribute to a "gentle man."

Tributes have been paid to Bill Hignett, from Norley after a collision on the A556 Chester Road, Sandwich near Northwich.

Cheshire Police reported attending a collision between a red motorcycle and a white DAF truck near to the golf club on the westbound carriageway just after 8 o’clock Tuesday night, October 3.

The 66 year old motorcyclist died at the scene.

The 25 year old driver of the other vehicle, from Warrington, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has since been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

A statement issued on behalf of Bill Hignett’s family reads, “Bill was a cherished, kind, supportive, gentle man and avid motorcycle enthusiast. He leaves behind wife Jacqueline, son Adam, sister Joan, brother David and many friends who loved and valued him.”

The road was closed until around 3am yesterday morning, October 4 to allow for investigation works.

Cheshire Roads Policing Team is now appealing for witnesses to the collision, and anyone with information should contact them on 101 quoting incident number 796 of October 3 or by calling Crimestoppers anonymously.
