We decided to do something a little different for this year’s May concert and at the same time showcase several SSO regular players.
After a Mozart overture, therefore, we have two offerings from Bach. In one, orchestra leader Helen Brackley Jones joins forces with principal oboe, Simon Beesley for the Bach Double Concerto for oboe and violin. In the other Helen again steps into the spotlight, this time with principal and sub-principal flautists Lindsay Grainger and Anna Shipton for Brandenburg 4. And for both Bach pieces we are fortunate to have the the wonderful harpsichordist Charlotte Turner on continuo.

The second half of the concert speaks for itself - Beethoven’s ground-breaking third symphony, ‘Eroica’!
