Bin collections to continue in lockdown with new Christmas collection dates advised

Cheshire East Council are reassuring residents that despite the latest lockdown restrictions, their waste and recycling collections are not affected, and they will endeavour to continue to deliver a full service across the borough, including the fulfilment of their 2020 Christmas bin collection schedule.

From mid-November, Ansa Environmental Services - a Cheshire East Council owned company, will be placing information stickers on bins of those households whose normal collections fall on Christmas Day, the bank holiday and New Year’s Day, advising residents of changes to their collection schedule over the Christmas and New Year period.

Over the Christmas period there will be no garden waste collections from Tuesday 22 December, collections will resume on Monday January 4, 2021.

This is to allow us to utilise our vehicles to catch up after the bank holidays on recycling and waste collections and to cope with the additional volumes experienced at that time of year.

Councillor Laura Crane, Cheshire East Council cabinet member responsible for environmental services, said: “The council is committed to delivering a full waste and recycling service despite the current lockdown measures. We want to reassure residents that, as with the first lockdown in March, waste collections will not be affected, and our crews will continue to deliver a dedicated service across Cheshire East.

“As in previous years, we will also be issuing our Christmas collection stickers from mid-November and would like to remind residents to check these new bin dates for the bank holidays over the festive period.

“Some collections will be brought forward, and others pushed back, depending on your normal bin collection day. There will be no garden waste collections from Tuesday 22 December but please continue to put food waste into garden waste bins, ready for collections to restart on Monday 4 January. If space in your garden bin is limited, please put your food waste into your black bin as a temporary measure.

“I would like to express my thanks to residents who have continued to recycle during the pandemic and also offer my thanks to our hard-working crews as they continue to sustain all waste collection services during these unprecedented times.”

The changes will only affect those households that have their household waste or recycling collections on a Monday or a Friday.

The stickers will also advise that there will be no garden waste collections from Tuesday 22 of December, collections will resume on Monday 4 January 2021

  • There will be no recycling or black bin collections on Friday 25 December 2020 (Christmas Day), Monday 28 December (Bank holiday) or Friday 1 January 2021 (New Year’s Day);
  • If your silver bin was due for collection on Friday 25 December (Christmas Day), it will now be collected on Tuesday 22 December 2020;
  • If your black bin was due for collection on Friday 1 January 2021 (New Year’s Day), it will now be collected on Thursday 31 December 2020;
  • If your black bin was due for collection on Friday 25 December (Christmas Day), it will now be collected on Wednesday 23 December 2020;
  • If your silver bin was due for collection on Friday 1 January 2021 (New Year’s Day), it will now be collected on Wednesday 30 December 2020;
  • If your silver bin was due for collection on Monday 28 December 2020 (Bank holiday), it will now be collected on Thursday 24 December 2020 and;
  • If your black bin was due for collection on Monday 28 December 2020 (Bank holiday), it will now be collected on Tuesday 29 December 2020.

Please ensure your bin is out for 6.30am on all collection days.

Local household waste & recycling centres will continue to stay open throughout the latest lockdown, as well as the festive period (except for Christmas Day) to accept garden waste and any excess household waste.
