Bringing steel back to Macclesfield - Jak Steel launches in industrial heart of town

After almost 200 years without a steel company in the heart of Macclesfield, Jak Steel launches today in the middle of the industrial area of the town.

Jak Steel Macclesfield opens as a result of a successful trading business with a turnover of over £1.4 million based in Widnes which was set up in 2015 by owner Dan Jones.  Jones saw a gap in the market for steel stockists with the ability to fabricate steel and deliver daily in the area and this new company aims to serve the community with a reach around the Macclesfield, Leek, Buxton, Poynton areas as well as being able to serve the whole of the UK.

One of the key achievements for the business has been to not only continue and grow trading throughout covid-19, but be able to supply across the North West and the whole of the UK, keeping jobs alive, projects on track and help others to fulfill.

An important project for the company completed during the pandemic was to provide emergency steel to support the building of new hospital wards for Whiston hospital in Warrington, without which, the hospital would have struggled to cope with capacity requirements for patients.

Jak Steel’s latest construction achievements include: working with DLR railways, providing important bridge repairs across the North West and steel for 20 solar farms across the UK.

Jak Steel also offers services for homeowners and architects who are planning and developing projects and extensions for their houses.  Jak Steel have been the supplier of steel  for several prestigious key house builds within Cheshire and further afield in the North West.

Dan Jones, founder and owner of Jak Steel said: “ After the success of our Widnes factory, we have outgrown the premises and being local to Macclesfield, I realised there was space in the area for another premises, where we can grow the business. I am confident that we will be able to grow by 25% in the first year.

He continued: “ The steel business is a massive part of our North-West heritage, and Macclesfield and Manchester have always been associated with industrialism.  I am delighted to be able to bring steel materials to enhance and help build commercial and residential projects such as home extensions and new concepts and projects to the area.  Being a local man, we also hope to create jobs within the local community as we get busier”.

Jak Steel Macclesfield will be run by Ben Gray, 25, who has worked with Dan Jones for 2 years, both keen sportsmen they are also sponsors of local rugby clubs Wilmslow Wolves and Macclesfield Rugby Club.

The new company currently employs 4 people and is hoping to expand due to demand.
