CELEBRATING THE CORONATION IN CHESHIRE

The coronation of King Charles III on Saturday 6th May will be celebrated in towns and villages across Cheshire, supported by the monarch’s representative in the county, the Lord Lieutenant Lady Redmond MBE, and her deputies.

She will be leading Cheshire’s Service of Prayer for the Nation, The King and Queen at Chester Cathedral on the morning of Sunday 7 May. On the same day, Northwich Town Council will be hosting a special Coronation Concert and Afternoon Tea at Baron’s Quay, with musical entertainment by the Roberts Bakery Band. And on the eve of the Coronation, Willaston Parish Council will be holding a Coronation Celebration, attended by the new High Sheriff of Cheshire Dennis Dunn MBE, one of the first to be appointed by the new king. Dozens of local events are being planned in pubs, clubs, town and community centres across the county.

Everyone is invited to get involved in a community Coronation Big Lunch on Sunday 7 May or volunteer as part of the national Big Help Out on bank holiday Monday 8 May.

The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service and the Queen’s Award for Enterprise have now changed titles to become the King’s Award for Voluntary Service and the King’s Award for Enterprise. Each year the Lord Lieutenant, on behalf of the monarch, presents a handful of outstanding Cheshire businesses and voluntary groups with the awards.

The first winners of the 2023 King’s Awards for Enterprise, recognising outstanding business excellence in international trade, innovation and sustainable development, have just been announced and applications for the 2024 awards open on 1 May.

The first King’s Awards for Voluntary Service will be announced this November, to coincide with the King’s birthday, and voluntary groups will be able to apply for the 2024 awards from 1 June.

Lady Redmond said: “King Charles has been a regular visitor to Cheshire on many occasions in his role as Prince of Wales and we are very much looking forward to welcoming him back to the county as our new monarch.

“We are delighted the two special awards, made in the monarch’s name, are continuing and would urge voluntary groups and businesses to check our website for more information.

“Each year several Cheshire residents are also recognised with individual honours, having been nominated by colleagues or friends. Again, I would urge you, if you know someone who has made an outstanding contribution to public or community life, please consider making a nomination on their behalf. This county is home to some remarkable people, organisations and businesses and it would be wonderful to see them being given national recognition for their work.”
