Cheshire Mother baking a difference for twin boys with muscular dystrophy

Mother-of-three, Kerry Spink from Lymm, will be supporting Muscular Dystrophy UK’s ‘Bake a Difference’ fundraising campaign, on Thursday 9th November.

With help from friend Jackie Gare, they will be holding a coffee morning at Jackie’s house to raise funds.
Kerry’s identical twin-boys, Oscar and Sebastian, 13, were diagnosed with Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) aged eight, in July 2019.
Kerry said: "It was a huge shock, when we opened the tests results from the hospital that came through post. We were utterly devastated and did research the condition on the charity’s website, so we understood the serious implications of the diagnosis.”
The boys will join mum Kerry, dad Grant, older sister Scarlett and family friend Jackie to mix up a storm, as they put their showstoppers to the test to support a great cause.
Muscular Dystrophy UK is the leading charity for more than 110,000 children and adults in the UK living with one of over 60 muscle wasting and weakening conditions. The money raised will help fund groundbreaking research and life changing support.

Kerry said:

“It’s an opportunity to come together as a family and help support Muscular Dystrophy UK to bake a difference. We know first-hand the challenges the boys, face every single day, living with a life-restricting condition. Simple tasks such as getting out of bed, brushing your teeth, that people take for granted.

“Muscular Dystrophy UK has been a lifesaver for us as a family, from providing us with information, to being able to meet other families going through the same experiences as us. It’s been such a comfort in the darkest times. We’re determined to continue to raise funds and looking forward to taking part in Bake a Difference for such a worthy cause that’s close to our hearts.”

The campaign began after supporter Sammy de Laszlo, from Hampshire, who was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy in 2012, organised a bake sale with his family to help raise awareness of his condition. Sammy, now 15, is on a mission to raise thousands and the charity is calling on others to ‘Bake a Difference’.
Susanne Driffield, Regional Development Manager (North England and East Midlands): “Whether you’re a star baker or a shop-bought faker, every pound raised will make a difference for those living with muscle wasting and weakening conditions.
“Thanks to Kerry and family for signing up to this year’s Bake A Difference on Thursday 9 November. You can join us and hold a cake sale at home or a bake off at work and invite your friends, family and colleagues to sample the delicious treats and make a donation.”
