Cheshire Women's Cricket League - Latest Results

The results from this week's games in the Cheshire Women's Cricket League.

Division One – August 29:

Nantwich 153-5 (40; Beth Hughes 32, Flo Seymour 27, Charlotte Rimmer 27, Izzi Pearson 24, Rosy Wilson 2-27) (25pts)

Didsbury 100 (35.2; Roshini Prince-Navaratnam 30, Franzisca Callwood 3-16, Hughes 2-11) (6pts)

·         A comfortable win for Nantwich as Didsbury’s excellent start to their run chase was swiftly followed by a collapse. The major damage was inflicted when Beth Hughes bowled her miserly spell in tandem with new acquisition Franzisca Callwood.

Division One - September 4:

Leigh 125 (37.1; Danielle Collins 37, Sophie Heaton 28*, Beth Hughes 3-16, Kelsey Barker 3-25, Sophie Winward 2-18) (25pts)

Nantwich 116 (34.4; Hughes 43, Gaby Crabb 3-16, Heaton 2-23) (8pts)

·         Leigh’s transformation over the last 12 months is now complete. Bottom of division one last year and only reprieved thanks to an expansion of the first division, they are now league champions for the first time. Leigh secured two excellent new additions in Rachael Walsh and Jaimie-Lee Strang, but the rest of the team has largely been similar to last year. For once, Leigh’s strong batting line-up failed to fire, and for a while it seemed like the efforts of Beth Hughes and others might make Leigh wait another week to clinch the Championship. However, while their batters may have made the headlines this year, all of their regular bowlers have made key contributions, albeit less eye-catching ones, and Gaby Crabb led the way with the ball here to ensure the celebrations could commence.

Appleton 256-6 (40; Georgia Heath 116*, Holly McCurrie 51, Annie Rashid 27, Stacey Miles 2-21) (25pts)
Didsbury 119 (38.1; Zoe Conway 37, Kathryn Jackson 3-10, Amy Seddon 3-14) (6pts)

·         Appleton continued their winning run by strengthening their grip on second place. While their bowlers might have played the major role in some of the recent victories, here Appleton became the latest team to post a big team score in what has been a very high scoring season. Those present here were treated to an extraordinary innings from Georgia Heath, whose 116 came from 68 balls, with 21 fours and three sixes, and furthermore, she only needed 47 deliveries to reach three figures.

Oakmere 205-6 (40; Phoebe Cottam 66, Sarah Worsdale 52, Eleanor Brennan 4-31) (25pts)

Stockport Trinity 161 (33.3; Ellie Mason 119*, Sophie Connor 4-21, Leah Holland 3-13) (8pts)

·         Ellie Mason made her third century of the year, but her Stockport Trinity side went down to a defeat that all but mathematically confirms they will finish bottom of division one and will therefore be relegated unless a league re-structure takes place.

Stockport Georgians 66 (21.2; Lucy Neill 26, Ali Cutler 6-15) (4pts)

Chester Boughton Hall 67-5 (15.4; Cutler 34, Cleo Johnson 2-12, Neill 2-19) (25pts)

·         Ali Cutler recorded the best bowling figures in any CWCL competition this year to send Georgians to a defeat that leaves them two points short of mathematically securing their first division status for next year. The Chester run chase might also have been much harder had it not been for Cutler’s efforts with the bat.

Division Two - September 4:

Oxton 81 (35; Madi Arthur 5-?) (4pts)

Upton 82-3 (16; Arthur 24)

(Limited details available at present)

·         Led by Madi Arthur’s contributions, Upton took another step closer to securing the title in what has been the league’s most closely fought division this year. The Wirral club will certainly be champions if they secure 32 points from their remaining two matches. There is actually a scenario that could see either of Upton or Lindow wrap up the title this Sunday – for Upton to be champions they simply need to beat Leyland , while Lindow lose to Hawarden. Lindow need to beat Hawarden and hope Leyland restrict Upton to six points or fewer. If neither of these occurs, then it goes to September 18, when Upton play Oxton once again.

Lindow (25pts) w/o Woodley (minus 10pts)

Division 3 West - September 4:

Wistaston Village 88 (23.5; Toyin Higgs 32, Isla Johnson 3-7, Luana Sims 3-9) (5pts)

Porthill Park Northern Stars 89-5 (17.4; Sims 44*, Emmy Hewett 3-35, Anna Bourne 2-16) (25pts)

·         Having been one of the best bowlers earlier, Luana Sims led the divisional winners home with the bat after they had been reduced to 44-5.

Division 3 East - September 1:

Hawk Green 54-6 (15; Rebecca Edmundson 24*, Amelie Batey 2-4) (4pts)

Stockport Georgians 2nd XI 56-0 (7.5; Tess Bailey 29*, Louisa Boyle 19*) (25pts)

·         Georgians wasted little time in completing a win that keeps them in the hunt for third place.

Division 3 East - September 4:

Hayfield 113 (23; Ruth Lomas 53, Rebecca Edmundson 4-14, Sia Singla 2-6, Sophie Aspin 2-6) (25pts)

Hawk Green 52 (18; K Higgins 20, Molly Doody 5-6) (5pts)

·         Hayfield are nine points away from the Division 3 East title. Ruth Lomas’ half-century set the foundations for this win, which was completed when Rosie Bradshaw struck with the first ball of the reply and Molly Doody then ran through the rest of the Hawk Green top order.

Division 4 - September 1:

Lindow 2nd XI 86-6 (16; Steph Walker 23*, Charlotte King 3-10) (8pts)

Oakmere 2nd XI 76-6 (14; Rachel Tidd 25, Naz Hancioglu 3-16, Charlotte Thompson 2-11) (25pts)

·         After a bad light stoppage, it was Oakmere who had edged past the divisional champions by the smallest of margins. Just one more run for Lindow in the first innings, or one fewer run in the second innings, would both have tipped the balance the other way.

Division 4 - September 4:

Buxton (25pts) w/o Heaton Mersey & Cheadle (minus 10pts)
