Constabulary to take part in National Safer Business Week to target business crime across Cheshire

Cheshire Police will be working alongside partner organisations and local retailers to help tackle business-related crime across the county.

As part of a national week of action, officers will be working with partner agencies to crack down on anti-social behaviour and shoplifting at businesses across Cheshire.

Over the course of the week, which will run from Monday 16 October to Sunday 22 October, the force will be delivering an array of activities and initiatives with local businesses and retail areas across the county as well as tackling some of the most prolific offenders.

As well as targeting key retail sites officers will also be looking to target smaller businesses and industrial estates, promoting a number of initiatives local tradespeople can get involved to protect property and business across the area.

Crime prevention talks on how traders can better protect their businesses will also be delivered across the force, with a ten-point guide available for both the retail and industrial sectors explaining how to spot any potential security vulnerabilities being produced by the force's Crime Prevention Unit.

Patrols across the county will also be stepped up during the week of action, with the higher police presence aiming to deter any anti-social behaviour or shoplifting within Cheshire’s businesses.

Retailers are also being encouraged to get involved with the ShopKind campaign, which encourages positive behaviour in shops, acknowledges the important role of shopworkers and raise awareness about the scale and impact of violence and abuse against them.

Chief Inspector Darren Griffiths, Force Lead for Safer Business Week, said:

"Collaboration between police and the business community is key in fostering a partnership approach in dealing with all aspects of business crime.

"Police alone cannot effectively address all the issues relating to crime and safety but working together provides a wider problem-solving approach.

"Businesses, their customers and visitors will see an increased police presence and activity during this week. Crime prevention talks, joint operations with trading standards and licencing partners alongside the increased number of officers visible will demonstrate the importance of tackling crime to protect and safeguard staff in businesses and retail premises."
