Council to consult on pedestrian crossing strategy

Cheshire East Council is updating its crossing strategy and asking residents of Cheshire East to have a say.

The strategy aims to achieve consistency in the assessment and provision of pedestrian crossings across the borough, prioritising locations where they are most needed.

The council is updating its strategy because it wants to have a more intuitive way of how it makes decisions on where crossings may be required.

Councillor Craig Browne, chair of Cheshire East Council’s highways and transport committee, said:

“Having a robust strategy is important so that we have a consistent approach for how we manage new and existing crossings and can prioritise where they are most needed. Naturally, this all has to be placed within the context of the budget allocation available.

It also supports the council’s Local Transport Plan objectives of enabling greater active travel and promoting a healthier active lifestyle.

“This is a good opportunity for Cheshire East residents to provide their input into how we make our highways a safer place for all road users. It’s very important to me and the council that all our residents are safe, however they choose to get about.”

The survey opened today, will remain open until Sunday 10 March and can be found at:
