Drive in cinema fun to help The Christie

The Christie is to hold its first series of drive in cinema events this autumn, to help raise vital funds for cancer patients at the North West’s internationally acclaimed cancer centre.

The ‘Drive in for The Christie’ screenings will run from Friday 18 September until Sunday 20 September at Arley Hall and Gardens in Cheshire. There will be both afternoon and evening performances over the weekend.

Films will include Pixar’s Coco, The Greatest Showman and Skyfall, ensuring that there will be something for everyone to enjoy. They will be shown on the iCONIC 100 – the world’s largest mobile LED HD screen which includes a state of the art sound system.

Food and drinks will be available from food vendors, before and during the screening. Alternatively, guests are welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy in their car. Toilet facilities will also be provided.

Anyone who attends the event will be able to enjoy the movie from the comfort and safety of their car. One way systems will be in place and clear queuing guidance will be provided as guests make their way around the venue.

Claire Ferguson from The Christie charity, said: “We are thrilled to be organising this spectacular series of drive in cinema screenings with a great choice of films to suit a wide range of different audiences. By using the world’s largest outdoor screen we are sure that people watching will have an amazing viewing experience.

“We’ve put a lot of thought and effort into making sure this is a safe experience for everyone who comes as we want our guests to thoroughly enjoy the whole experience whilst helping to raise vital funds to support our patients at The Christie.

“Our charity supports a range of projects and initiatives for patients focusing on four main areas - research, care and treatment, education and extra patient services. Everything we fund goes above and beyond what the NHS provides, enabling us to give our patients the best care, treatment and quality of life possible.”

Tickets are £30 per car, with five people allowed in each car. To purchase a ticket for this event, please visit www.christies.org/movies. Tickets will be sent out by email. To use a car with more than five seats, please contact The Christie charity directly on 0161 918 7403 and a member of the team will be happy to help.

The Christie charity supports the work of The Christie NHS Foundation Trust providing enhanced services over and above what the NHS funds. This includes money for care and treatment, research, education and extra patient services. Gifts from the public make a huge difference to the care and treatment that The Christie is able to provide to patients and their families.

The Christie NHS Foundation Trust was the first specialist trust to be rated as ‘Outstanding’ twice (in 2016 and 2018) by the health regulator the Care Quality Commission (CQC). It referred to The Christie as ‘a leader in cancer care’ and ‘a pioneer in developing innovative solutions to cancer care.’ The CQC praised the Trust’s staff which it said ‘go the extra mile to meet the needs of patients and their families’ and that they were ‘exceptionally kind and caring.’ In 2017, the CQC rated The Christie as the best specialist trust in the country, and one of the top three trusts overall in England.
