Heading out over Easter? Don’t forget a bus ride will cost you no more than £2

Cheshire East Council is reminding residents that travelling by bus costs just £2 on nearly all the borough’s bus services.

Passengers should be aware that there has been no change to the national bus fare cap, meaning that a maximum fare of £2 continues for single journeys until December, with return fares at £4.

So, if you are going out over the Easter holidays, why not take the bus and leave the car at home?

The ‘get around for £2’ scheme was introduced by central government in 2022 to help families during the cost-of-living crisis, but also to encourage drivers to leave their car at home and reduce carbon emissions. The extension to the scheme was announced by the Prime Minister, in September last year.

The fare cap does not apply to the Go-too bus service operating in the Nantwich area of the borough, which has its own fare policy reflecting its on-demand service. The “Beartown” services around Congleton operated by Hollinshead Coaches, with a flat fare of £1.50 are also excluded.

Encouraging more people to use buses is a key element of the council’s sustainable travel strategy. It’s hoped that the £2 fare will be an incentive to more people of all age groups to choose the bus for local travel.
