Puddle Ducks Make Water Safety A Priority

Water safety and building confidence in young swimmers, were the key focus of a recent meeting between local MP, David Rutley, Rachel Bateson, Business Manager and Lindsay Kerr, Marketing Manager of Puddle Ducks.

The meeting provided the opportunity to highlight the impressive work the organisation has been doing to teach children to swim, whilst respecting water.

During the meeting, Rachel and Lindsay explained to David that Puddle Ducks aim to ensure every child they teach loves to swim, whilst also gaining the knowledge and confidence to respect water. David was pleased to hear that Puddle Ducks have developed two water safety courses for both Summer and Winter, which highlight the dangers of swimming in open water during hot weather spells and the risks of ice-covered water. Both courses have been delivered in nurseries, pre-schools and primary schools across the Borough.

The Cheshire based group has been operating since 2002 and since then has developed over 30 franchises across the country, with Mid Cheshire alone teaching over 1,000 swimmers a week. Since the pandemic, the appetite for swimming lessons has grown and the organisation has developed three core swimming programmes, all of which are tailor made. These include: Baby & Pre-school (for babies and children aged 0-4 years); Swim Academy (for children aged 4-10 years); and Aquanatal (for mums-to-be).

One of the swimming pools Puddle Ducks uses, is in Macclesfield at the Everlast Gym, every Thursday to Sunday. David was pleased to hear that the group is going from strength to strength, and whilst some of the swimming lessons are at capacity, there are still spaces on the Baby & Pre-school programme.

Speaking after the meeting, David said:

“Ensuring children of all ages have the correct knowledge of water safety is vital. It’s positive to see the innovative way Puddle Ducks are incorporating this into their lessons, at the same time as ensuring swimming remains fun and accessible. Their engagement with local schools and their water safety hints and tips online play an important role in making children and their families more water aware.”
