Lymm Historic Transport Day is back this year on Sunday the 23rd June. Now in our 11th year, this is a community event run entirely by volunteers and over time we have raised around £50k for local charities and voluntary groups.
The event celebrates all things 'historic transport', hence we have over 400 classic cars, scooters and vintage bicycles, alongside horse drawn carriages, tanks, cockpits, model railways, steam traction engines, roman chariot and working canal boats (the Bridgewater Canal handily cuts right through Lymm). We pride ourselves on bringing together an eclectic group of visitors, from hardcore enthusiasts to young families, and we're anticipating over 5000 people on the day. Of course, the history of this whole area is absolutely linked to the history of transport itself.
The even starts with a parade of over 100 vehicles through the village at 10.30am and the field opens at 11.00am. This year in the 80th anniversary of D Day we have been lucky enough to secure a fly past from one of the only two remaining airworthy Lancaster bombers, operated by the Battle of Britain Memorial flight.
Alongside the transport exhibits, we also have Steam Punks, a climbing wall, remote controlled racing cars, a stunt bike display and giant sandpits. All this, plus a huge Lego display, star wars troopers, live music, food and drink stalls and artisan vendors selling everything from cake and candles to vintage leathers.
