Tuesday 25th Febuary is the date for this years annual Pancake Race rasing money for a number of charities.
Local companys race to win and also some do it in fancy dress.
Local businesses, clubs and organisations are being reminded that there is still time to enter a team for Macclesfield’s Pancake Race.
The historic Shrove Tuesday event, which this year falls on February 25th, sees competitors sprinting up and down Mill Street outside Macclesfield Town Hall while tossing pancakes. The competing teams run a relay race up and down a short course between two points while flipping a pancake in a frying pan.
Macclesfield’s businesses, clubs and organisations are being urged to promote themselves, have some fun and support local health services at the same time by entering a team of four into the race. Friends, family and colleagues are all encouraged to come along and watch the race and cheer their teams on.
Registration is just £20 per team and there is no minimum sponsorship amount – just collect as much as you can from everyone you know for ECHO - the official charity of East Cheshire NHS Trust.
All money raised this year will go towards ECHO’s minibus appeal, which is aiming to raise £45,000 for a wheelchair-accessible minibus which is needed to help patients, many of whom may be elderly and reliant on public transport, to return home once they no longer need a hospital bed.
A number of prizes will be on offer at this year’s pancake race – including a prize for best fancy dress – and we are delighted once again to welcome local radio station Silk FM to compere and keep the crowds entertained.
Fiona Doorey, ECHO’s fundraising manager, said: “The pancake race is a brilliant community event which brings local businesses and organisations together to raise funds for a great cause. This year we really need your help to kick-start the trust’s £45,000 minibus appeal to help get patients home when they no longer need a hospital bed. I look forward to seeing you there.”
Registration takes place outside the town hall at 10.30am and the first race is at 11am. The races should be completed by 1pm at the latest so the event can fit around the working day.
Pans and pancakes will all be provided on the day for competitors. As in previous years, local rotarians will kindly be stewarding the event and Cheshire East Council and Macclesfield Town Council are assisting with barriers, street management and other vital arrangements.
