A royally good day in Congleton Park

Residents and visitors to Congleton Park did not let the rain stop them as they enjoyed another joyous occasion celebrating the Coronation of King Charles III.

The bank holiday Monday event organised by Congleton Town Council didn't quite get the turnout of last year's Jubilee party but patriotism was not lost by those who attended.

Revellers that braved the elements came together to celebrate a moment in history whilst enjoying the fantastic line-up of live music and entertainment. Congleton Town Mayor, Cllr Margaret Gartside and Congleton Town Crier, Paul Duffy officially opened the event. Live band ‘Bring on the Swing’ got the party started followed by Congleton Community Choir and an energetic set from Andy Hofton. The RSPCA dog show proved a popular attraction as did the games hosted by Vale Juniors Football Club. Audley Brass Band delivered the rousing grand finale finishing with the National Anthem.

Congleton Town Mayor said: “It was a great day, bit of a shame about the weather, but the fact so many people turned up just shows our Britishness. King Charles III said that the Coronation was a great time for communities to come together – and that’s exactly what we did! I would like to thank everyone who made the event happen. A big thank you to all the team at the Town Council, Friends of Congleton Park and Congleton Rotary. Also to the West Congleton Rangers and Congleton Community Projects who helped to run the craft tent, Jenny and John Unsworth who recreated the Dragon Quest, the Mossley Scouts who helped on-site, all our volunteers, the food and drink vendors, the entertainers and community groups who took part.

This is my final month of being Congleton Mayor. I feel very fortunate that during my year of Mayor I have been able to enjoy the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, the proclamation of the King and now the Coronation of the King. It’s been a right royal time!” 

The National Lottery Community Fund, Congleton Town Council and the Margaret Williamson Fund helped to sponsor the event. Local companies Siemens and Beresfords kindly offered their car parks. Even without a royal event, Congleton Town Council hopes to create another big community in the beautiful surroundings of Congleton Park for Summer 2024.
