2024 will see race organiser Run Cheshire raising vital funds for Alzheimer's Society, its new ‘Charity of the Year’ partner.
The dementia charity is calling on all local runners to put their best foot forward and make a difference for people living with dementia and their carers.
One of the highlights of the year’s fundraising calendar will be the 1k fun run as part of the Colshaw Hall 10k race on the outskirts of Knutsford on 16 June. The popular event will see hundreds of fun runners getting on their marks to help end the devastation caused by dementia; it’s open to everyone and all proceeds will be donated to Alzheimer’s Society.
For more advanced runners there are a variety of competitive events scheduled throughout the year, all of which will raise money for the charity. These include the Cheshire Elite 10K and the Mid Cheshire 5K, both of which are very popular with local clubs and individual runners.
Jess Mackenzie, local fundraiser for Alzheimer’s Society said:
“Everyone at Alzheimer’s Society is excited about our partnership with Run Cheshire. Dementia is the UK’s biggest killer. One in three people born in the UK today will develop dementia in their lifetime so it’s certain that lots of local runners and their families will know someone who is affected. We’re sure they will turn out in large numbers to help us raise money for this important cause. We’d also like to appeal for volunteers who might be able to donate a couple of hours on race day.”
“It’s forecast that by next year there will be over 14,000 living with dementia across Cheshire, but we simply can’t reach everyone without the continued support of incredible fundraisers like Run Cheshire.”
Michael Harrington of Run Cheshire said:
“There cannot be many families that have not been touched by dementia in some form; we hope we can help raise awareness of the amazing job that The Alzheimer's Society does as well as help raise much needed funds.”
