Police are appealing for witnesses and video footage following an aggravated burglary at a convenience store in Crewe.
At 5.40am today, Thursday 2 March, police were called to reports of an incident at the Crewe Supermarket on Nantwich Road.
The caller reported that four men wearing dark clothing and black balaclavas had entered the store via the main entrance and were threatening staff.
The men, who were possibly armed with a weapon, entered the back of the store and stole a large quantity of cigarettes.
Officers were quickly deployed to the scene and a 19-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested nearby on suspicion of burglary; he remains in custody at the current time.
However, the three other suspects made off from the scene on foot.
All of the stolen items were recovered in the car park at the rear of the store.
A red Ford Fiesta was also located on Catherine Street and has been seized as part of the investigation.
Detective Sergeant Kate Palin, of Crewe CID said:
“This investigation is in its early stages and we are committed to doing all we can to identify those responsible.
“Nantwich Road is extremely busy and as part of our investigation were keen to hear from anyone who was in the area and believes they may have seen something suspicious.
“The same goes for anyone with any dashcam or CCTV footage which may be relevant to the investigation.
“We are particularly keen to hear from two customers who were in the store when the incident occurred. The customers were a woman who was believed to be wearing a red coat and a man who was wearing a coat with a furry hood.
“We’re also aware that a number of people now have video doorbells, and I would ask residents on the nearby streets to check their footage to see if they have anything which may assist our investigation.”
Anyone with any information which may aid the investigation is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101, or at www.cheshire.police.uk/tell-us , quoting IML 1491033.
