Detectives are appealing for witnesses and video footage following a fatal collision in Nether Alderley.
At around 1am on Friday 9th October, police were called to a collision at the Alderley Roundabout on the A34 Melrose Way (Alderley Edge Bypass).
On arrival officers found the collision involved a black Mazda and the driver of the car had fled the scene on foot.
Three passengers remained in the vehicle were all treated by paramedics at the scene.
Sadly, despite the best efforts of all those involved, one of the rear seat passengers, a 21-year-old woman from Macclesfield, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
The two remaining passengers, a 34-year-old woman from Macclesfield, and a 36-year-old man from Macclesfield, were both taken to hospital.
A 36-year-old man from Macclesfield was subsequently arrested nearby on suspicion of causing a death by dangerous driving.
Enquiries in relation to the collision are ongoing and officers are keen to hear from anyone with any information.
Detective Sergeant Russ Sime, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Cheshire Police said:
“This is a tragic incident in which a young woman has sadly lost her life and our thoughts are with her family at this difficult time.
“Enquiries In relation to the cause of the collision are ongoing and one man is currently being held in police custody.
“The A34 is a busy road, and as part of our investigation, we’re keen to hear from anyone who was in the area and witnessed the incident, or anyone with any dashcam footage of the collision.
“Were also keen to hear from anyone who thinks they may have seen the vehicle involved, a black Mazda, in the run-up to the incident. The vehicle is believed to have been travelling on the A34 from Wilmslow towards Monks Heath.
