Applicants wanted from Cheshire to climb Kilimanjaro in Tanzania

On Thursday 28th of May the lead for physical activity and sport across Cheshire and Warrington, Active Cheshire, will release an opportunity of a lifetime with its Active Adventures launch.

Three young women between the age of 19 - 25 will be selected to take on one of the world’s great natural wonders, Mount Kilimanjaro. A sponsored trip to Tanzania will require candidates to raise money for Warrington Youth Club (WYC). WYC exists to support young people’s development, offering opportunities though its wide range of programmes. WYC believes in 'Inspiring young people to achieve'.

According to recent research from Public Health England, 1 in 4 (25%) women across England are classed as physically inactive. Almost 1 in 2 (42%) women are not active enough for good health, meaning they are active for less than 30 minutes a week. This frightening figure combined with the lockdown made Active Cheshire and WYC create the Active Adventures, where a legacy is created to inspire and encourage individuals to overcome challenges in order to achieve greatness.

For applicants to fit their criteria, you must be from the least active areas across Cheshire, those highlighted areas are; Crewe, Winsford, Ellesmere Port, Macclesfield and Warrington.

Applicants must submit a compelling video application to prove why they should be selected for the #ActiveAdventures. These women will demonstrate values, such as commitment, courage and spirit of adventure. Whilst tackling inequality and creating a legacy not just for themselves but for WYC and the people around them – their families, friends, communities and people who follow their story.

To help inspire others to move more, face challenges head on and break down barriers, Active Cheshire and WYC are going to provide these women support and funding to tackle one of the toughest challenges they will ever do. This sits well with the mission to embed sport and physical activity in society, alongside important values, through engaging communities, stakeholders and partners. This is achieved through engaging, enabling, inspiring, educating and influencing.

Active Cheshire aim is to create something lasting which will impact on people’s lives in a positive way. These women will look to do this through the length of their journey. Creating legacy not just by fundraising for WYC and inspiring others, but also for themselves through this experience.
