The Breast Screening Unit at Macclesfield District General Hospital is set to receive a significant boost following the news that it will be one of the beneficiaries of the 2026 Boot Out Breast Cancer Ball.
Scheduled to take place on Saturday 7th March 2026 at the Kimpton Clocktower Hotel in Manchester, the evening will bring together supporters and donors to raise the funds necessary to provide life-saving diagnostic equipment.
All proceeds from the event will be donated to support the breast units at Macclesfield Hospital and at Leeds NHS Teaching Hospital.
Debbie Dowie founded the charity in 2010 following her own breast cancer diagnosis, and having experienced firsthand the life-saving importance of early detection, she has dedicated her work to ensuring NHS units across the North West have access to the latest breast cancer diagnostic technology.
She recently visited the unit at Macclesfield Hospital where she met with clinicians and staff to understand more about the services they provide, the challenges they face, and the difference that new diagnostic equipment can make for patients across the region.
Debbie said:
“Meeting colleagues at the unit gave a great insight and reinforced why funding high-quality diagnostic equipment is so essential, it speeds up diagnosis, improves accuracy, and ultimately saves lives.
“We’re grateful to the team for welcoming us so warmly and for the vital work they do every day.
“We look forward to sharing more updates as we continue working together to make a real and lasting impact.”
Guests at the event will step into an enchanting Midsummer Night’s Dream–themed evening, filled with magic, entertainment, and purpose.
The evening will be hosted by BBC Sports presenter Hugh Ferris, bringing his signature energy and warmth to the stage, whilst live music will be provided by Kevin Simm, lead vocalist of Wet Wet Wet.
