Celebrate the King’s Coronation in Congleton Park

The countdown is on to the community celebration in Congleton Park as part of King Charles III Coronation.

Organisers, Congleton Town Council are inviting everyone to join them at the FREE event on Bank Holiday Monday (8 May) which runs from 1pm-5.30pm.

Rachel McCarthy, Congleton Town Council’s Town Centre and Events Officer said: “We’ve pulled out all the stops to organise a huge picnic and family fun day in the beautiful surroundings of Congleton Park. Communities, neighbours, friends, and groups across Congleton are invited to gather together for an enjoyable afternoon of music and entertainment. We have a fun programme of activities planned with ‘Bring on the Swing’ kicking off the royal knees up, rousing tunes from Audley Brass band and performances from talented local groups. The popular RSPCA dog show is back, so bring along your four-legged friends (all dogs MUST be kept on leads). Children can go on a Dragon Quest in the woods, make Coronation themed crafts and get their face painted. Join in the games hosted by Vales Juniors Football Club and Congleton Grizzlies Basketball Club plus fitness challenges by Everybody Leisure. Don’t worry if you forget to pack the picnic, there will be a selection of delicious food options available to buy from the food and drink stalls. We hope as many people as possible can join us to celebrate this historic occasion.”

The town council are encouraging residents to walk to the park if they can as surrounding roads and car parks will be extremely busy. Visitors driving into Congleton for the event can take advantage of free parking on selected car parks as the town council is using its last ‘free parking’ day offered by Cheshire East Council. There will be no charge when parking in the Fairground car park by Congleton Library, Back Park Street car park behind Lawton Street or Princess Street car park near the market, although be aware that the three hour limit for the short-term Fairground car park remains.  

In addition to town centre car parks, free event parking is available on Siemens, Jackson Road and Beresford’s, off Willow Street (opp St Stephen’s Church). There will be designated Blue Badge parking on Hankinson’s field, off Park Road, follow the big blue signs. Mill Green and Park Road will be closed to traffic from 10.30am-6pm, with access for residents only.
