Cheshire Police to celebrate response policing in national week of action

Response officers across Cheshire will be celebrated for the work that they do every day as part of a national week of recognition.

The week will run from Monday 13 June until Sunday 19 June and will see forces across the country join together with the National Police Chiefs Commission (NPCC) to commemorate the work response officers do every day to keep us safe.

The NPCC worked alongside Oscar Kilo, the National Police Wellbeing Service (NPWS), the College of Policing and the Police Federation, to deliver a range of initiatives co-ordinated specifically to support, develop and recognise the role of response officers.

In Cheshire this year, a lot of the focus is around supporting the response officers around the county and recognising them for the work that they do.

Each day, response officers respond to hundreds of incidents across Cheshire and are often the first face the public meet when out and about.

Members of the Senior Command Team will be visiting different Local Policing Units (LPU) and some will be taking part in patrols and responding to incidents with officers across the week.

Cheshire Constabulary’s T/Inspector David Levins said: “The Response Week of Action provides an opportunity for all forces to highlight the vital role that Response Officers play in protecting the public and keeping communities safe, and that is why our force is celebrating the great work that goes on.

“In addition to celebrating the professionalism and courage of Response Officers, it is also an opportunity to recognise the challenges they face and consider the development of a key role that sits at the heart of policing.

“This week is an opportunity to put a spotlight on police officers who are often the youngest in service, the first to respond to danger and often the first police officer that members of the public meet.

“It is imperative that we recognise the value of this role and the officers upon whom this responsibility rests.”

Cheshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner John Dwyer said: “Our Response Officers in Cheshire work tirelessly every single day and show great courage and commitment whilst protecting communities across our county.

“It’s absolutely right that we celebrate their dedication and professionalism with this week of recognition. The work that our Response Officers carry out is invaluable, sometimes in the face of great danger, so I am delighted that the role is being celebrated across the nation as well as here in Cheshire.”
