Cine Window brings Precious Memories to Winsford Cross Shopping Centre

A nostalgic look back over forty years into the lives of teenagers growing up in Winsford is now on display at Cine Window in the town centre.

Cine Window Winsford is running a short film which delves into the fascinating and successful life of New Images Youth and Community Centre, a second home for many of Winsford’s teenagers stretching back over the last four decades.

‘Precious Memories, New Images Youth and Community Centre’ has been made by Canteen Creative Productions which has used archive photographs, illustration, and memories to highlight the history of youth work that has taken place in Winsford since the 1970s.

Using the Youth and Community Forum Heritage Project photographs collected from the 70s, 80s and 90s, filmmaker Sam Ryley has created a collage of memories alongside collected stories. The film includes an interview with Bob Barton, trustee since 1985, full time youth worker at New Images from 1977 – 2003 and area worker for Cheshire County Council and Cheshire West and Chester Council until his retirement in 2012.

Cath Campbell, creative programmer for the Cine Window, said: “This film has evolved over a few years, from a request to show the New Images Heritage Project Photographs in our window, to this fantastic film that captures the scope of youth work carried out in the town over the last decades, alongside the commitment of the Winsford Youth and Community Forum to continue this important work.”

Debbie Cragg, Executive Director New Images Community Centre, said: “This is a fantastic collection of meaningful memories provided by the Community Forum. We have weekly if not daily visits from local people who have attended the many venues and especially remember Bob and Cath, it’s an absolute credit to the town and long may it continue.’’

Councillor Louise Gittins, Leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council, said: “This film is one of many interesting displays being shown to visitors to Winsford town centre over the last year at Cine Window.

“It captures the atmosphere and nostalgia of New Images, which offered a valuable place for young people to meet over many decades. We urge everyone walking past Cine Window to spend a few minutes watching this film at Winsford Cross Shopping Centre, you may well spot yourself in one of the archive photographs.”

The film will be on display at the Cine Window until mid July 2022, and it is also available to view at:

Winsford Youth & Community Forum is working with and on behalf of children, young people, and adults throughout Winsford and the surrounding area by providing activities, projects, facilities, and services for all – regardless of age, to assist them via community interaction, involvement, and development by working in partnership with other organisations and agencies

Winsford Youth and Community Forum (previously known as Winsford Youth Forum) was established in 1981 as a charity and a company working in partnership with other voluntary organisations who have young peoples and interests at heart.

In June 2017, those aims were extended to include adults, to reflect the change of name and the increasingly change of use of New Images.
