CONGLETON NSPCC TOY APPEAL DELIVERS CHRISTMAS CHEER

The successful Annual Toy Appeal, made possible by the kind-hearted Congleton community, saw well over 500 toys donated to many local children and families most in need of some Christmas cheer.

The great cause was once again supported by Plus Dane Housing, Congleton Chronicle, Congleton Town Council, Boots Barn Road and the local branch of the NSPCC.

Plus, Dane Housing’s Regional Operations Manager, Kirsteen Smith, who co-ordinated the distribution of toys said: “Plus Dane was delighted to again assist and work with the 2022 toy appeal partners. We have been amazed by the kindness and generosity of the local community with the number of donations this year, particularly during this cost of living crisis. However, we have also been saddened by the increase in the number of families and children that are struggling and impacted by poverty or the after effects of domestic abuse. Over 140 children were referred to us this time, we also seem to have engaged with more child carers this year too.”

Kirsteen continues: “Thank you to everyone who donated. Plus the very generous donation of toys from the parishioners of St Michael’s, North Rode from their Annual Gift Service on Sunday 4  December. All the gifts were beautiful, and we are all so touched by your kindness, you really are incredible people! Our families wanted me to pass on their thanks as these toys really made a difference to their Christmas.”

In addition to the toys gifted, residents dug deep and made financial donations to the NSPCC across three local collection boxes. Sue Dale, a long serving volunteer for the NSPCC said: “We are extremely grateful for the contributions considering most people shop with a card and do not carry cash.  Monetary aid is so very important, as unfortunately Christmas Day is Childline’s busiest day of the year when desperate children, who have been abused or neglected by parents, ring for help.  The cost of each call is £4, so monetary donations are vital to the charity’s work. We are thankful to everyone involved and the partners who served as valuable drop off points for both toys and financial donations.”

Over the past twenty years the team has established a proven track record of getting the toys to those who need it most. The team is already looking to see how it can work together for Christmas 2023.
