Explore the borough this summer and let the bus take the strain

With improvements to a cross-borough service and bus fares still capped at £2, there’s never been a better time to hop on a bus to explore Cheshire East.

The number 38 – connecting Crewe to Macclesfield – is a key service that enables people to enjoy the wider borough and make connections to other public transport routes. 

By travelling on route 38 this summer you can:

• Enjoy a great day out in our towns and villages
• Visit countryside and local attractions, fairs and events;
• Connect to towns and cities further afield;
• Enjoy a seven-day, year-round regular service;
• Take advantage of improved Sunday and Bank Holiday services; and
• Leave the car at home, relax and enjoy the view.

All buses on route 38 route provide next stop travel announcements, scrolling on-board information, free Wi-Fi, fully accessible wheelchair bays, buggy zones and hearing loops.

Recent enhancements to the service are a result of partnership working with bus operator D&G supported by the local authority’s:

Councillor Mark Goldsmith, chair of Cheshire East Council’s highways and transport committee, said:

“As we are into the peak of the summer and with the school holiday season in full flow, this is a very good time to consider using the bus to get out and about.

“Whether your interests are markets, museums and galleries, libraries, restaurants or even stately homes, the bus can take you there.”

Councillor Lata Anderson, Cheshire East Council’s public transport member champion, said:

“Using public transport is a way to ensure that you relax when you’re travelling, so with these service improvements, it’s a great time to consider leaving your car at home. 

“And I’d also add that it’s not just for those people looking to explore. I encourage people to consider using the bus for their regular commute. It’s a more sustainable way of getting around, supporting the work we are doing towards our ambitious target to become carbon neutral by 2027.”

Dan Flanagan, Cheshire area manager for D&G Bus said:

“We have moved up a gear in our partnership with Cheshire East Council, with a shared aim to make travelling by bus an attractive alternative to using the car. The company has invested in a new fleet of vehicles to provide a high-quality experience for passengers.

“Taking the bus is great for days out in your local towns, villages, countryside and tourist attractions in Cheshire East – for a maximum single fare of only £2.”

A programme of investment to bus stops, shelters, and timetable information along route 38 will continue through this year.
