Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service are carrying out an investigation following a flat fire in Macclesfield.
At around 4.45pm on Friday 22 January, firefighters were called to a report of a fire at a flat on Chester Road.
Crews from Macclesfield, Bollington, Alsager and Wilmslow attended and found that the fire was confined to one of the flats.
Six firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus, entered the building with two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.
Sadly a man, believed to be in his 40s, died at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation although it is not believed to be suspicious at this time.
The remaining occupants of the flats were evacuated to safety.
