East Cheshire NHS Charity’s Macclesfield Pancake Race turned Shrove Tuesday into a day of fun and fundraising, with over £900 raised.
Crowds gathered in the sunshine to witness 19 teams take on the challenge of flipping a flipping a pancake up and down a short course between the Town Hall and Mill Street, with all monies raised going towards supporting the work of East Cheshire NHS Trust’s charity.
Teams included colleagues from East Cheshire NHS Trust, as well as representatives from a range of local businesses, charities and organisations including Reach Out and Recover, Specsavers Macclesfield, Holy Trinity Hurdsfield Church, Bennett Brooks Chartered Accountants and Love Live Agency.
Katie, Matt, Nathan and Jordan from Love Live, a creative agency based in Macclesfield, came out as winners of the event in an exciting final and said:
“We did have a bit of a game plan and having the inside lane was a bit of a sneaky tactic we had as there were a lot of strong teams competing.
“This is our third pancake race and the second time we have won so we will be back next year to retain it.”
Backed by local radio station Cheshire's Silk Radio, Macclesfield Town Council, and the Rotary Club Macclesfield, the race has grown stronger each year, with new teams joining what has now become a much loved local challenge.
There were many prizes up for grabs, including an award for best fancy dress, which was won by one of the teams from Reach Out and Recover who looked fantastic in their Star Wars themed costumes.
Chair of East Cheshire NHS Trust, Aislinn O’Dwyer, was among the many people who attended the event and said:
“Thank you to all the participants who came and supported what has been a great event that takes place in aid of a very special cause.
“The charity is there to provide additional support for patients, their families and staff within the Trust and provide those extra things that make a stay in hospital that little bit better.”
