Have your say on proposals for the A500 Corridor Improvements Scheme

Cheshire East Council is inviting people to have their say on proposals to improve the A500 corridor and connections to Crewe Railway Station.

The A500 corridor improvements scheme aims to make journeys safer, easier and more attractive for people walking, wheeling, cycling and driving. It will improve connectivity, support future growth and also encourage more sustainable travel for Crewe.

The six-week engagement period runs from Thursday, 10th September to Thursday, 22nd October 2026. During this time, people can share their views by attending a public engagement event or via the online engagement form.

Public engagement events will take place on:

• Friday, 11th September 2026, 10am-6pm: Crewe Railway Station, Nantwich Road entrance foyer, Nantwich Road, Crewe, CW2 6HR.
• Thursday, 17th September 2026, 11am-3pm: Crewe Market Hall, stage area, 27 Earl Street, Crewe, CW1 2BL.

Councillor Mark Goldsmith, Cheshire East Council cabinet member for highways and transport, said:

“Whether you live, work or travel through the area, your feedback is really valuable and will help shape our proposed plans.

“I therefore encourage people to take a look at the proposals and have their say during this six-week engagement period. This is an important opportunity to improve connections between Crewe Railway Station and the A500, which provides key links to the M6 and towards the A50 corridor across the East Midlands.

“Additionally, it is also a key element of our wider Greater Crewe plan, which represents one of the North West's most significant growth opportunities.

“Crewe’s excellent connectivity remains one of its greatest strengths, and ensuring that the station, town centre and surrounding areas work together will be vital for unlocking its future growth and potential.”

Progression of the A500 scheme is subject to the outcome of the Government’s funding review and confirmation that it remains in the Department for Transport's Major Road Network programme. This decision is expected in late summer this year.

Feedback gathered through the engagement sessions and online form will help Cheshire East Council better understand local priorities and inform the ongoing development of the proposals.
