Colleagues from Macclesfield Hospital’s Breast Care Unit welcomed inspirational fundraiser Gena Moors to see the new ultrasound machine funded by her ‘Splash of Pink’ campaign.
After receiving treatment at the unit in 2020, Gena launched the initiative to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer care.
Her efforts — including two successful fundraising balls at Shrigley Hotel & Spa - raised over £59,000, enabling the purchase of an ultrasound machine that will support earlier and more accurate diagnoses.
Her visit, which took place during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, was a chance to see first hand how the new equipment will help patients.
Gena said:
“I couldn’t have done this without everybody around me with amazing support from both family and friends.
“This wouldn’t have happened without all these people. I stand here as ‘the one’ but everybody who has supported me has made this possible.
“It’s amazing to see the machine and knowing the difference it will make. If it saves one life, then to me I can say that’s my job done.”
Aislinn O’Dwyer, Chair of East Cheshire NHS Trust, added:
“What a special occasion this is to say a big thank you to Gena and her family as well who have contributed so much.
“Her extraordinary fundraising efforts have enabled us to purchase an ultrasound machine, and for many women who go through a similar journey, seeing the machine and the plaque will be a powerful reminder that there is hope after breast cancer. Your story will bring comfort and inspiration to so many.
“On behalf of the Trust, all our colleagues and the community we serve, I’d like to say a very big thank you to Gena.”
