A gruelling mountain challenge in Northern Spain is on the horizon for the chairman of children’s cancer charity KidsCan, who is taking on the epic trek to raise vital funds for children and families affected by cancer.
Paul Moonan, who lives in Knutsford, will kick off the 70km route on Wednesday 5th October, making his way through mountain range Picos de Europa and tackling approximately 4,450 metres of elevation.
The Picos de Europa holds a particular significance for Paul, having worked in the area during the 1980s. He has long admired its beauty, feeling inspired to use the location for his latest challenge.
Paul, 64, previously completed the Tour de Mont Blanc Trek alongside his daughter Rachel in aid of North West Cancer Research.
And, following KidsCan’s recent merger with North West Cancer Research, Paul is hoping his multi-day challenge plays an integral role in funding life-saving research.
Paul, who lives in Knutsford, said:
“I am excited, nervous and daunted! I am worried that it may feel like a far bigger challenge than last time.
“KidsCan is an amazing charity that provides fantastic support for young people and their families who are undertaking very difficult journeys to confront their cancer diagnosis. As chair of the charity, it feels incredibly special to be taking on such a challenge and potentially helping to fund future projects.”
Kidscan is a charity organisation that is dedicated to transforming the way that childhood cancer is treated, pioneering research to kinder, more effective treatment.
Paul added:
“Reaching my target could enable KidsCan to fully support a one-year research project undertaken by a university student, leaving a lasting legacy and changing the cancer journey for children and their families.”
