LOCAL CHARITY TO HOST WEEK OF FREE EVENTS ON THE IMPORTANCE OF MAKING A WILL

Local charity Autism Together has organised a week of free online activities to mark this year’s Remember a Charity in Your Will Week.

From September 7-11, the organisation which operates across North Cheshire, Wirral and North Wales is highlighting the importance of leaving a will, while helping people understand the related legal language and decisions that need to be considered.

Throughout the week, the charity will be sharing videos, hosting webinars and teaming up with solicitors to help take people through the ways they can create a will that works best for them.

Chloe Jones from Autism Together’s Fundraising Team will be chairing one of the webinars and said:

“Making a will is something we often delay, however it is one of the most important documents we will ever create, so we wanted to give people the opportunity to ask questions, understand the process and make the legal jargon simpler to understand.

“An important part of our week is discussing the value of legacies to charities like ours. Wills and legacies are so important for the peace of mind of the person making them and for charities who are remembered in them.

“For most people, leaving a legacy will be the greatest contribution they ever make to the support of a charity, and one that will create a lasting difference for years to come.”

The schedule for the week starts on Monday, September 7th with a personal video from Autism Together’s Rick Myers, describing his experience of the importance of leaving a will.

On Tuesday, September 8th, there will be a free webinar from 1-2pm via Zoom, hosted by Chloe Jones with expert advice from Bequeathed.

On Wednesday, September 9th there will be a personal video from one of the charity’s supporters, who explains why her mum decided to leave a gift in her will to Autism Together and the huge difference this legacy has made.

On Thursday, September 10th, there will be a free webinar from 7-8pm via Zoom, with McClure Solicitors. This event is ideal for those unable to attend a daytime session.

Both webinars will cover topics like making a will, power of attorney, inheritance tax, setting up a trust for a loved one, and how to make a basic online will for free.

Then on Friday, September 11th, Chloe will share a video reflecting on information from throughout the week, while explaining more about the work of our charity and how much a legacy could mean to the people we support, now and in the future.

This video, like the other two, will be shared via Autism Together’s website and Facebook page.
