Macclesfield College pledge to improve health among students and staff through physical activity

To increase physical activity levels amongst students and staff, Macclesfield College are working in partnership with Active Cheshire.

An organisation who provides expert advice and equip employers and schools with the necessary tools to activate their environments.

Active Cheshire is the lead body for physical activity and sport in Cheshire & Warrington. Since 1989 the organisation has been working across the sub-region to improve the lives of local people through sport or physical activity opportunities. As everyone’s mental and physical health has been affected by the ongoing pandemic, the college is keen to implement a plan to improve the physical and mental wellbeing for all learners and staff.

Rachel Kay, Principal and Chief Executive of Macclesfield College said: “The College is committed to developing and improving ways to enrich the health, wellbeing and quality of life of all staff and learners. We are taking reasonable steps to protect staff, students and others from coronavirus (COVID-19) within the education setting. To help improve this unsettling time, we are focusing on improving overall health amongst staff and students through our Active Cheshire Pledge.”

Nont Iamkampheng, Strategic Lead Active Kids of Active Cheshire, said: “We want to start shifting attitudes in the workplace and education sector. There’s an unwritten expectation to be at your desk at all times. Activating the College environment, including office and break out areas, will be more encouraging to create an active culture, promoting positive wellbeing choices and behaviours.”

Most of what Active Cheshire does is to do with change. By encouraging behavioural change, transforming attitudes, mindsets, and habits. The Charity are constantly learning to adapt to the needs and challenges in an increasingly inactive society. Working across the whole of the market partnering with a diverse range of organisations ensuring a positive impact in all walks of life; ensuring people can get active at home, school, in the workplace and everywhere in between.

About Active Cheshire:

Active Cheshire’s mission is to embed physical activity into all aspects of everyday life by 2040.

Every day, British people can spend as much as 75% of their waking hours sitting down. The severe and harmful effects of prolonged inactivity, include an increased risk of Type 2 Diabetes, cancer, heart disease and premature death. This has led to sitting being referred to as ‘the new smoking.’

Active Cheshire work with public health, local businesses, local government, education, environment, infrastructure and transport partners to name a few.

We help people take small steps to have a big impact on their quality of life.
