Musica Nova are delighted to be returning to All Saints’ Church in Cheadle Hulme on Saturday 29th April, with a concert of varied music by Richard Strauss, Nielsen, Elgar and Akimenko.
Musica Nova’s Wind section will take the stage for the first half of the concert, performing Richard Strauss’ enchanting and exuberant Suite in B-flat, a work of four contrasting movements written in 1884.
In the second half, the Strings take over with three separate works.
The beautiful Nocturne in D major by Ukrainian composer Theodore Akimenko was written in 1910.
The soulful Little Suite for Strings by Danish composer Carl Nielsen was first performed in 1888 and shows originality and inventiveness in a young composer who was just starting to make his name.
The final work is Edward Elgar’s expressive and dramatic Introduction and Allegro. Originally composed in 1905 for performance by the newly formed London Symphony Orchestra, the work is now recognised as a masterpiece.
The concert takes place at All Saints’ Church, Church Road, Cheadle Hulme, SK8 7JL on Saturday 29th April 2023 at 7:30pm.
