New chair announced for Crewe Town Board

The new chair of Crewe Town Board says it’s a ‘great privilege’ to be taking over the role and is proud to be helping to guide Crewe through the next stages of the town’s regeneration.

Tony Davison, who has been a director at Crewe Alexandra Football Club for nearly four years and was previously chairman of Nantwich Town, has taken over the role officially following this month’s meeting of the board. 

Mr Davison said:

“It’s a great privilege to be joining Crewe Town Board as its new chair. I’m very experienced in this type of role and want to use that background to keep building the momentum of the board’s work. To have the opportunity to move forward with projects that are already well advanced is something I will relish. My promise to Crewe residents is that I will bring time, effort, and enthusiasm to everything I do.

“I’m very appreciative of the work that has already been done by the outgoing chair Doug Kinsman and the board as a whole. To be taking over the role from Doug at this time is a real privilege, as so much outstanding work has already been done. It’s my responsibility now to build on those strong foundations that Doug has helped to set and move on to the next steps.”

Outgoing chair Doug Kinsman has stepped down as chair after being in post since 2019 and steering the board through the process to secure an allocation of £22.9m of funding from the government’s Towns Fund.

Now that physical works are starting to get underway on several of the nine projects supported by the funding, he feels it’s time for a new person to add fresh impetus.

Mr Kinsman said:

“After almost three and a half years of chairing Crewe Town Board on a voluntary basis, it is the right time to hand over the reins and for a new chair to lead the board through its next stages of work,”

“All of the Towns Fund projects are at the delivery stage and must spend the allocated funding through their development by March 2026. Throughout that process the board has a role in providing oversight and scrutiny to ensure that all projects deliver the required outcomes and impacts that were originally planned. 

“This is a different phase for the projects, and I’m excited by the prospect of Tony Davison becoming the new chair because I believe that he has all of the skills, knowledge and experience to ensure that this is successful. 

“Additionally, I believe that Tony shares the same passion and desire to see Crewe maximise its potential by working with all partners and stakeholders within the community to ensure its onward regeneration. I wish Tony every success in his new role as chair and I would like to thank the board for the support they have given me in my time in the role.”
