Eight girls and boys from local village primary school Mottram Saint Andrew Primary Academy in Cheshire, have stunned judges with their phenomenal talent, to take first place at this year’s British Amateur Gymnastics Association (BAGA) National School Trampoline Finals.
Both boys and girls team include some of the youngest and inexperienced competitors in the championship with the youngest, just seven years’ old and the oldest aged nine.
The two young teams were competing for the girls and boys Novice (under 11s) category respectively, against competitors from across the UK who were up to the age of 11. Both teams excelled to take the winners podium.
The winners train with Macclesfield Trampoline Club, which also had success with other teams in the competition, including Kings School Macclesfield, Fallibroome Senior School and Beech Hall Independent School.
This year's event was hosted at The Kings School, Macclesfield on Saturday 12 March 2022, and was attended by around a thousand competitors and spectators who had travelled far and wide.
Team coach, Rachael Burrows of Macclesfield Trampoline Club, said: "To win this title is absolutely staggering; this little school competing against some of the best in the country, but they put in hours of preparation and rose to the challenge, and ultimately wowed all the judges. As they stood there with the national anthem playing it was a wonderful moment of utter pride and happiness.
"The consistency in their performances to qualify through the North West, North of Britain and then to win the British title overall is exceptional and in all my 17 years of taking pupils to these competitions I have never seen such strong group of children as this amazing Mottram group - I wouldn’t be surprised if we may had some future sporting stars among them. How wonderful for a little village school of only 150 children.”
