Officers from Crewe CID are appealing for information after a distraction burglary in the town.
he incident happened between 4.30pm and 5pm on Thursday 25 April on Derrington Avenue, Crewe.
Two men knocked on the door of a property and offered to fix the 79-year-old victim’s roof. They agreed a price and then the two men asked for a deposit to buy materials.
The male victim went upstairs to get some money before returning downstairs.
One of the men entered the house and asked to look out the back to see where he could place his ladders.
Whilst the victim went to the back of the house the victim saw the other man walking down his stairs.
The victim then went upstairs and discovered that money had been taken. Approximately £600 was taken in total.
The victim then went outside and asked the men where the money had gone and the two men took the ladders from the front of his house and drove off in a grey Ford Transit van, with the company name Santex Home Improvements on it, towards Edleston Road.
The first man is described as white, late 30s to early 40s, approximately 5’10” tall, stocky build with dark coloured hair. He was wearing a pale blue/grey coloured work shirt with the name Santex Home Improvements written in orange and blue writing, a white decorator’s apron, grey/white trousers and dark shoes. He spoke with a slight accent, either Irish or Scottish.
The second man is described as white, late 30s to early 40s, 6’ tall, slim build and dark wavy hair. He was wearing a pale blue/grey coloured work shirt with the name Santex Home Improvements written in orange and blue writing, white/grey trousers and dark shoes.
Detective Constable Simon Knowles said: “These men have targeted an elderly man in is his own home in a despicable way. We need the public to come forward with information – no matter how small to help us with our investigation and prevent them from doing this to someone else.
