Over 140 vehicles dealt with during Alderley Edge deployments

Police officers have stopped over 140 motorists seen driving dangerously following several deployments along the A34 between Alderley Edge and Wilmslow.

Between Saturday 25th July and Sunday 23rd August, officers from Cheshire’s Special Constabulary were deployed on three occasions along the A34 between Alderley Edge and Wilmslow as part of Operation Joyrider.

With the support from the Motorcycle and Roads and Crime units, these deployments were a direct response to a number of concerns raised by residents in the nearby areas.

Alongside concerns of speeding and anti-social and dangerous driving, officers have regularly been deployed to the area in relation to a number of illegal car meetings and drag-style racing.

Over the course of the three deployments, officers stopped over 140 vehicles and seized a total of 11 vehicles.

Other results from the deployments included:

  • x39 section 59 orders being issued
  • x32 Traffic Offence Reports being issued
  • x1 driver arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol

Special Constable Adam Moore, of the Roads and Crime Unit, said:

“We know that dangerous driving and large-scale illegal car meets along the A34 corridor are a real issue for residents in Alderley Edge and Wilmslow, which is why we regularly conduct operation such as this to provide some reassurance and act as a warning to those planning to come to Cheshire to engage in reckless activities.

“As these results demonstrate, we have a zero-tolerance approach to this kind of behaviour, and we will take action against those who break the law.

“We will continue to analyse video footage of dangerous driving taken the area, and anyone caught committing driving offences can look forward to a visit from officers - it will take a lot more than blurring out number plates on online videos to stop our officers from identifying the vehicles involved in criminality.

“We conduct enforcement operations such as this to prevent serious collisions on our roads. With this in mind, we would like to warn those intending to gather with the intention to drive recklessly that we are constantly monitoring the area and will respond to any illegal activity accordingly.”

"If you have any concerns or information on any criminal activity taking place, please contact us on 101 or dial 999 if it is an emergency."
