Now, as part of ongoing enquiries officers are appealing to the public to help identify a HGV driver who is believed to have stopped at the scene.
Sergeant Jonathan Marsden said: “This was a serious collision which has left the victim with potentially life-changing injuries.
“We have already completed a number of enquiries and as part of our ongoing investigation we are keen to hear from a HGV driver who is reported to have stopped at the scene and spoken to a number of people present.
“The man was reportedly driving a white heavy goods vehicle, possibly a Volvo.
“I would urge the driver, or anyone who thinks they know his identity, to get in touch – you are not in any trouble but we believe you may hold vital information.”
