Police reward children for their work in the community

Police in Northwich have rewarded children for their outstanding efforts in the local community.

Police in Northwich have rewarded children for their outstanding efforts in the local community.

On Monday and Tuesday (April 11 and 12), officers handed out gift-wrapped Easter eggs, a recognition award and a certificate to each child that had been selected for their work in Northwich.

Approximately 50 children, aged between two and 16, were recognised for their fantastic work which includes litter picking every weekend, improving behaviour within the community and charity work - including one child raising £13,000 for Cancer Research in memory of a family member.

Prizes were handed out for a range of work including:

• Community work

• A charity marathon run for Shelter

• Litter picking

• Walking 5k for suicide prevention and mental health charities

• Providing lunches for vulnerable people

• Charity work in aid of Tiny Steps

• Raising £13,000 for Cancer Research

• Helping out at Rainbows Girlguiding

• Improving behaviour within the community

• Baking cakes for charity, with the money going towards the Ukraine humanitarian effort

Sergeant Leanne Brundrett, of Northwich Local Policing Unit, said: “It was great to be able to give something back to the children that have done something for our local community.

“Some of the work that has been done by the children is outstanding and something that they and their families should be extremely proud of.

“I would like to thank our local supermarkets, shops and the town council for helping by donating the Easter eggs for the children.

“At a time when anti-social behaviour in the area has been a dominating factor for our resources, it is nice to have some good news in the area.”

Parent Hannah Stackhouse thanked officers for the event.

She said: "I would like to say a big thank you to everyone involved. It was an absolutely wonderful afternoon and made my son, Harry, feel so special.

"It has shown Harry the importance of good behaviour and it's nice to see the recognition for staying on the path of good. Thank you to the shops that donated the gifts and to the police staff who were all so friendly."
