Cheshire East Council's consultation on proposed changes to the borough’s parking arrangements is still open.
Please help us by taking part and letting us have your views. They are important to us.
The six-week statutory consultation opened on 20 September and runs until 1 November 2023. Parking charges have only been increased once since Cheshire East was formed in 2009.
The council has recently reported on financial pressures and the review of parking charges and arrangements across the borough is key to further reducing the deficit.
There has been an imbalance in parking arrangements for many years and these proposals are intended to improve fairness and consistency across the borough’s towns.
Therefore, the council is consulting on proposals to:
- Introduce parking charges in some car parks where parking is currently free;
- Increase current parking charges by the rate of inflation in some car parks across the borough;
- Reduce parking charges in some car parks due to their location and usage; and
- Make changes to the limited waiting bay periods at certain on-street location.
Arrangements for Blue Badge holders are not affected by these proposals.
The present parking charges are no longer sustainable as income from the council’s car parks is impacted by inflation, higher maintenance and operational costs. Also, income from car parking helps to support other services – from highway improvements, some bus services and active travel schemes.
Our car parks require regular resurfacing, improved lighting and markings and we need to install more electric vehicle charging points as more drivers switch to electric and hybrid vehicles.
The proposals are contained on the council's:
