An historic building in the heart of Northwich town centre is weeks away from being returned to its former glory.
The former Burton Menswear building in Witton Street is currently surrounded by scaffolding as work continues to repair and redecorate its exterior elevation.
By mid-October, work is expected to have been completed and the scaffolding removed so that residents can see and enjoy the improvements to this prominent town-centre building.
The work is part of the Northwich Townscape Heritage Project, which is being funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund partnership grant scheme with Cheshire West and Chester Council.
Cabinet Member for Inclusive Growth, Economy and Regeneration, Councillor Richard Beecham said: “The Northwich Townscape Heritage Project aims to enhance the visual appearance of shops in High Street and Witton Street and to focus on improving the timber-framed buildings which are characteristically unique to Northwich.
“This work is breathing new life into this prominent building at the heart of the town centre. It is important that we preserve our historic buildings for future generations to enjoy.”
The building, 51-53 Witton Street, previously housed Burton Menswear since 1923.
Details about the Northwich Townscape Heritage Project, which runs until 31 January 2022, are available on the website - www.northwich-th.co.uk/
Using money raised by the National Lottery, the National Lottery Heritage Fund inspires, leads and resources the UK’s heritage to create positive and lasting change for people and communities, now and in the future.
