Rural Crime Prevention Advice

Cheshire Police issue some crime prevention advice for rural and farming communities.

Theft is an issue that all farmers face, whether its livestock theft, machinery theft, or even diesel oil being stolen.

Farms can cover large areas of land and it can be difficult to make them completely secure.

Here is a few ideas you can implement for different things to keep your farm safe and secure.

You can use this for any outbuilding if you aren't on a Farm.

Restrict access to your yard with locked gates and security barriers - the fewer ways in the better. (Use quality locks)

Fit alarms to storage sheds and other buildings.

Install CCTV in your yard, sheds and any other vulnerable areas. Alternatively, use wildlife camera traps as a cheaper but effective option.

Invest in good lighting for your farmyard.

Lock windows & doors, remove keys from locks & keep out of visible reach.

Mark equipment & property with farm name & postcode, use a UV pen, engraving, stamping, tagging or forensic marking.

Hide valuable items from view & secure them in locked outbuildings.

Check fencing hedges and walls regularly.

I hope you found this helpful, feel free to contact your Rural Crime Team for further information or if you would like us to come out and pay you a visit to discuss further.
