National Highways is advising drivers to expect delays as one lane remains closed on the M6 northbound between junctions 18 and 19.
The lane closure is due to an infrastructure defect discovered during planned overnight work and is likely to remain in place for some time.
The entry slip road at junction 18 also remains closed.
A specialist engineer has carried out an inspection on land subsidence along the embankment, with repairs underway.
A large, temporary barrier is also being installed for the protection of HGVs while work is completed.
Delays are expected, and road users are advised to plan their journeys and avoid the area at peak times if possible.
