Two men arrested following investigation into theft of cooking oil

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of theft of cooking oil following a stop check in Poynton.

At around 4.15am on Tuesday 25th August, officers on patrol in Poynton spotted two men who were acting suspiciously on Dickens Lane.

The pair were spoken to by officers and due to the strong smell of cooking oil, officers decided to conduct a search of the local area, leading to the discovery of a white Peugeot van which contained 15 drums of cooking oil.

The two men, a 35-year-old from Doncaster and an 18-year-old from Sheffield, were both arrested on suspicion of theft and remain in custody at this time.

Police Constable Barlow, of Macclesfield Local Policing Unit, said:

“Enquiries in relation to this incident are in the early stages and as part of our investigation, we’re keen to hear from any local businesses who believe they may be missing any cooking oil.
