Police are investigating a violent disorder against a man and a woman in Middlewich.
The unnamed man and woman were walking through Wallcroft Gardens, Middlewich when a group of people began to attack the woman.
A black saloon car then pulled up alongside the couple, where more people jumped out of the vehicle.
The woman, 21, was hit in the face while the man, 25 was kicked and punched a number of times.
The offenders were dressed in all black, with some wearing scarves covering their faces.
After the attack some of the group, which included two women, ran off towards a supermarket while the rest got back into the car.
The woman was treated for minor injuries in hospital, while the man suffered serious but not life threatening injuries.
Constable Thomas Towe said: “Firstly I would like to reassure the local community that this was an isolated incident and they can expect to see extra patrols in the area.
“The incident itself was a nasty and unprovoked attack on two innocent members of the public.”
