Amanda Hargreaves, from Altrincham, is going to be running the London Marathon on Sunday 21st April to fundraise for The Christie Charity in memory of her mum.
Amanda was just nine years old when her mum, Wendy Elizabeth Derbyshire died of cancer aged 34 in 1989. Wendy had lived with it for 20 years.
Amanda has dedicated herself to fundraising in memory of her mum and other family members who have been treated at The Christie hospital. She is one of the founding members of the Manchester PA Network, which donates to The Christie Charity, and has raised more than £200,000 to date:

On Sunday 21st April, Amanda will be running the London Marathon, with her goal to raise £1,500 for The Christie Charity .
Amanda comments:
“The Christie was a huge part of our lives and their support and care for my mum and our family was invaluable and it is an absolute honour to be running for them this year. My mum will forever be my hero and her determination and strength will always inspire me, when I think of watching her learn to walk and drive a car with an artificial limb, swim again with one leg, it reminds me that running 26.2 miles is nothing compared to the years of pain she suffered.”

The Christie Charity supports the work of The Christie NHS Foundation Trust providing enhanced services over and above what the NHS is able to fund. This includes money for care and treatment, research, education, and extra patient services. Gifts from the public make a huge difference to the care and treatment that The Christie is able to provide to patients and their families.
